Frequently asked questions

No. What counts is the connection point and the name on the electricity bill. In a rental the bill is usually in your name, and the saving then comes straight to you, without going through the service-charge statement. If the building is already a self-consumption grouping (ZEV), it joins the LEC as one entity and the saving follows that grouping's own statement. Joining a LEC does not alter the building, does not touch the meters and does not change your supply contract.

Waiting costs money and earns nothing. Membership is free and carries no commitment until the LEC goes live, and it follows you: on the day you move, you update your address from your dashboard. If you later fit panels, you add the producer role to the same account, with no new signature. The savings you make today as a tenant are not deducted from your future income as a producer, they add up.

You enter your address, check eligibility in 30 seconds, then sign the representation mandate online. WattMatch then handles the steps with your Distribution System Operator (DSO). Activation typically takes 4 to 8 weeks.

It is the document authorising WattMatch to represent your connection point with your DSO in order to enrol you in the Local Electricity Community. It is free, doesn't change your current supply contract and can be cancelled at any time under the terms of the WattMatch contract.

Savings start when the LEC goes live, about 4 to 8 weeks after mandate signature, the time needed for your DSO to apply the grid-usage discount (LApEl, art. 19h OApEl). The discount can reach 40% of the grid-usage rate in the transformer perimeter.

From your WattMatch dashboard, under Settings → Termination. After the 5-year minimum term, notice is 4 months at month-end. Termination is free of charge for consumers. For producers, in the event of early termination (before 5 years), the electricity injected in the last period is remunerated at the statutory SFOE minimum (between 0 and 6 ct/kWh in 2026 depending on power) instead of the LEC tariff (see Contract art. 7.3), except in waiver cases (relocation outside Switzerland, dissolution of the LEC, sale of the property, etc.).

Yes, a smart meter capable of measuring consumption every fifteen minutes is required to take part in a LEC. Most Swiss DSOs have already started rolling them out. If you don't have a smart meter yet, WattMatch coordinates the installation request with your DSO, the installation is free.

You update your consumption address in your WattMatch account. If a LEC covers your new address, migration happens automatically. Otherwise the contract is paused free of charge until a LEC becomes available. For moves outside Switzerland, early termination is free.
